About the game

Prince of Persia is a legendary cinematic platformer created by Jordan Mechner and published by Broderbund. The NES version (1992) brought the groundbreaking rotoscoped animation and precision-based gameplay to Nintendo's 8-bit console.

You play as the Prince of Persia, who must escape the dungeons, navigate 12 treacherous levels filled with deadly traps, guards, and puzzles, and rescue the Princess from the evil Vizier Jaffar. You have only 60 real-time minutes before the Princess is forced to marry Jaffar — and then die.

The game is famous for its realistic character animation, lethal traps (spikes, guillotines, loose floor tiles), and tense sword fighting that demands timing and patience. It remains one of the most influential and challenging platformers ever made.

Tips & strategy

  1. Always check the floor ahead — many tiles are loose and will drop you.
  2. Don't rush — one wrong step means death and lost time.
  3. Use save states in the emulator before difficult sections.
  4. In sword fights, keep your distance and strike when the enemy backs off.
  5. Collect potions — red restores health, blue increases your maximum.
  6. On level 3, watch for "loose" tiles — you can jump over them.
  7. Master climbing and sliding — it's key to moving quickly.
  8. Memorize trap layouts — the game does not forgive mistakes.
